Split a variable product into simple products: step-by-step guide

Screenshots use a made-up example business. Official sites change, so yours may look slightly different.

  1. Variation Converter Split tab with the Canvas Apron variable product opened, its new product names and the Split button highlighted
    1. On the Split tab, open a variable product. Check the name each new product will get, untick any you don't want, then click Split.
  2. All Products list with the new Canvas Apron Sand and Canvas Apron Charcoal simple products highlighted
    2. Each variation is now its own simple product with its SKU, price and stock. The variable product stays in your list but is hidden from the shop.

Pick the product

Open the Split tab and search for the variable product, or use the Split into simple products link under it in Products > All Products.

Check the names

You get one row per variation with a suggested product name, like "Classic Tee Black". Edit any name that should read differently and untick variations you don't want as separate products.

Split it

Click Split into 2 simple products (the number matches the variations you checked). Each checked variation becomes a simple product with its SKU, prices, stock, weight, dimensions and image, plus the variable product's descriptions, categories and tags. The variable product is hidden, not deleted.

A variable product that Variation Converter made by combining offers Undo instead of a split, so you get your original products back rather than new copies.
