Structure

Start as a sole proprietorship. It is the cheapest and simplest option, and you can incorporate later if the business grows.

The trade-off is that you are personally liable for the business. Creditors can take your personal assets to pay business debts. Insurance (step 7) is how you manage that risk.

Name

Saskatchewan's law asks you to register the name you do business under, and its definition includes your own family name. So plan to register in the next step, even if you trade as "Smith". If you are sure you will use only your full legal name, ask the Corporate Registry whether you still need to.

Keep it practical

Choose a name you are comfortable seeing on a bank statement, a licence and a shipping label.
