What it is

Saskatchewan charges 6% PST on most goods sold or used in Saskatchewan. It is separate from GST and is registered, collected and filed with the Ministry of Finance, not the CRA.

Who must register

Saskatchewan says all businesses making retail sales in Saskatchewan must register for a PST number. There is no sales threshold for a retailer. The small-trader exception only covers home crafters who sell from their own home, not online stores.

How to register

Register online through Saskatchewan eTax Services (SETS) with the New Business Registration form. You receive a vendor's licence number. We found no registration fee, but the ministry may ask for security before it issues a licence.

Your supplier needs this number

Licensed vendors buy goods for resale without paying PST by quoting their vendor's licence number. There is no separate certificate. The number does not let you buy things for your own use tax-free.

Collecting and filing

You charge PST on the price before GST. You file monthly, quarterly or annually depending on how much tax you collect. File even if you collected nothing for the period.
