Privacy
Quebec has its own private-sector privacy law, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, strengthened by Law 25. You are the person in charge of privacy unless you name someone else in writing, and you must publish that person's title and contact details and a plain-language privacy policy on your website. Customer data needs care, so:
- Collect only what you need.
- Never share it with advertising networks.
- Say clearly in your policy what you keep and for how long.
Marketing email
Canada's anti-spam law, CASL, requires clear consent and an unsubscribe link in every marketing email.
Consumer rules
Quebec's Consumer Protection Act has rules for distance contracts: you must show the required information before the customer buys, let them review and correct the order before paying, and send a copy of the contract within 15 days. Your website and terms must also be available in French. Check the current requirements with the Office de la protection du consommateur or a lawyer before you publish your terms of sale.
