PEI — register a sole proprietorship ↗

Who has to register

Prince Edward Island requires you to register any business name other than your own name.

Name approval first

Request approval in the Online Corporate and Business Registry. It costs $40 for an Atlantic Canada search, or $50 Canada-wide. The registry orders the NUANS name search itself and emails you the result.

Register online

Once the name is approved, you receive a company PIN and key by email. Use them to register the sole proprietorship, which costs $90. The certificate is emailed to you.

Renew every three years

The registration lasts three years, and renewing costs $75. There is a six-month grace period, after which the registration becomes inactive.

Keep it

Save the certificate. You will need it for the bank account and your supplier account.
