No registration needed
The province says it does not have legislation governing a business name registry. A sole proprietor has no business name to register, no fee and no renewal.
When this changes
The Registry of Companies only registers corporations and some other entities. If you incorporate later, you will need a name approval and an incorporation through the registry.
Keep a record
Write down the name you trade under and the date you started. Your bank, the CRA and suppliers may ask how the business is set up.
